The Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board voted Wednesday to send a letter of reprimand to Eric Rosenthal for failing to file accurate reports when he was chairman of the Linn County Republican Central Committee in 2004.
Rosenthal, who was defeated by Ben Rogers in his bid for the Linn County Board of Supervisors, has been under investigation since 2005 over whether he received Linn GOP Central Committee funds for personal benefit.
The Ethics Board found that while Rosenthal received no financial gain from the bookkeeping mistakes, he should have kept better records for the reimbursements he received.
"It pretty much balanced out – but the reports were not accurate," Smithson wrote in an e-mail to Kathy Potts, the Republican who originally filed a complaint against Rosenthal.
A reprimand is the Ethics Board's mildest form of discipline.
