Thomas "Tom" W. Banse, 68, of Fairfield, formerly of Strawberry Point, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. There will be a visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, prior to the funeral service at the First United Methodist Church. Pastor Todd Holman will be officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Polishville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church, Strawberry Point; First United Methodist Church, Fairfield; or to donor's choice. Cards and memorials can be mailed to 2520 Glasgow Rd., Fairfield, IA 52556.
Tom was born Aug. 25, 1948, the son of Samuel Freeman and Lorna (Dunston) Banse, in Vinton, Iowa. He married Bonnie Beuter on July 19, 1975, in Solon. Tom graduated from Vinton High School, Class of 1966. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1970. Tom served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1968 to 1970. He worked for Seedorff Masonry as an estimator from 1970 to 2015. Tom was a member of Mason Lodge Elkader No. 72, El Kahir Shrine Club of Cedar Rapids, American Legion Post No. 218 of Strawberry Point, the United Methodist Church in Strawberry Point from 1977 to 2013 and Fairfield First United Methodist Church from 2013 to 2017. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and had season football tickets for 40 years.
Tom is survived by his wife, Bonnie Banse of Fairfield; five children, Troy (Melissa) Banse of Mankato, Minn., Chris (Tanya) Banse of McKinney, Texas, Andy (Lisa) Banse of State College, Pa., Matt (Cortney) Banse of Des Moines and Molly (Bob) Mosinski of Fairfield; 10 grandchildren, Grace Banse, Allison Banse, Lydia Banse, Noah Banse, Kinnick Banse, Mason Banse, Luca Banse, Bianca Banse, Josie Mosinski and Lane Mosinski; sister-in-law, Barb (Don) Vesely of Shell Knob, Mo.; brother-in-law, Richard (Kathleen) Beuter of Naples, Fla.; and many cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Lorna Banse.
