CEDAR RAPIDS – A second man has been charged in connection with a June fire that started during the production of methamphetamine.
Adam D. A. Burkart, 21, of 1708 C St. SW, has been charged with first-degree arson and manufacturing of a controlled substance after the fire broke out on June 18 at 110 Morgan St. SW. Burkart's roommate, 20-year-old Jesse J. Vozenilek, was previously charged with first-degree arson.
According to a criminal complaint, investigators found precursors for meth and drug artifacts inside the mobile home that caught fire. Burkart and Vozenilek were both burned, authorities said.
Burkart, who was acquitted of attempted murder by a Johnson County jury in 2009, was arrested Tuesday in the parking lot near his residence without incident. He was being held at the Linn County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Vozenilek, whose bond was recently reduced to $10,000, has been in jail since he was arrested July 4. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 17.
