Robert "Russ" Russell Swain Jr., 69, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Family will receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the service at the chapel.
Interment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Russ was born on Feb. 12, 1947, to Robert and Virginia Slade Swain in Independence, Iowa. He was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School with the class of 1965.
On Aug. 30, 1968, he married Patricia (Torbett) and to this union two children were born. The couple later divorced.
Following graduation, Russ proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He completed a tour of duty in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1969. He returned to Cedar Rapids and began working at Evergreen (formerly Cherry-Burrell Inc.). Later he joined the Linn County Sheriff's Department as a special deputy, along with the city of Palo Police Department. Following his retirement with Evergreen, he continued to work in law enforcement.
Russ enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for shooting, hunting, car races and football, and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
He will be missed by his daughter, Denise Lindsey of Blairstown, Iowa; his son, Eric Swain of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Neoma (Duane) Starns of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, John (Brittney) Lindsey, Courtney Lindsey, Marissa Parizek and Kimberly Rieks, all of Marengo; and one great-grandson, Hunter Huber of Marengo.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Billy Swain.
