CEDAR RAPIDS - Two Cedar Rapids men have been arrested following a high-speed chase that resulted in the injury of a bystander early Monday morning.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said officers spotted a vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 380 just after midnight Monday with a license plate that did not match the vehicle's description.
When Cedar Rapids police officers attempted to stop the vehicle, authorities said the suspect vehicle accelerated at speeds of more than 100 mph. The vehicle took the off ramp to County Home Road, where it collided with another vehicle that was eastbound on County Home Road, police said.
The sole occupant of the vehicle that was struck was a 22-year-old man who was transported to Unity Point-St. Luke's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Buelow said.
One of the suspects was arrested at the scene of the crash. According to the complaint, Dominick Washington, 22, was found with marijuana in his possession, as well as hydrocodone without a valid prescription.
'Based on officers training and experiences, it appeared (Washington) was involved with the delivery of marijuana,” according to the criminal complaint.
The driver of the vehicle, Adam Anderson, 21, fled on foot from the scene, Buelow said.
At 4:15 a.m., police received a call about a suspicious person in the 2400 block of County Home Road, Buelow said. Anderson allegedly entered a gas station/convenience store at that location with no shoes, covered in mud and asking for a ride.
According to the criminal complaint, Anderson was also found in possession of marijuana.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office assisted in the incident.
Washington is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a prescription drug.
Anderson faces charges of speeding, attempt to elude, hit and run with injury, driving while barred and possession of a controlled substance.
