DAVENPORT – An Iowa City man pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court Thursday to the charge of receiving and distributing child pornography.
On August 31, 2009 federal agents arrested Monte J. Brummer, 56, at his home and seized three computers. Those computers later revealed a total of 604 photos and 46 videos of children posed lasciviously, or engaging in sexual acts with other children, according to court documents.
Of those files, 252 images and 10 videos were found to depict unknown child victims. Those files were sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
An FBI agent in Arizona had first discovered the contents of Brummer's computer after Brummer connected with the agent on a peer-to-peer file sharing network that the agent had launched.
Brummer admitted to browsing the Internet to collect child pornography over the past 10 years. He said he had an interest in”teen stuff,” according to court documents, but said he had downloaded images of children younger than age 12.
A guilty plea to receiving and distributing child pornography carries a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison and a maximum of 20 years, along with a maximum fine of $250,000.
Under a plea agreement, a charge against Brummer of possessing child pornography will be dismissed
