Robert Louis Wichman, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, June 4, 2016. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 7 p.m. rosary. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Robert was born May 30, 1943, in Iowa City, the son of Joseph and Huberta (McAleer) Wichman. He graduated from Waucoma High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Robert was united in marriage to Janice Schoelerman on Oct. 1, 1966. Robert and Janice had four children. Robert later married Marian Goldsberry on June 10, 2010.
Robert worked in manufacturing for many years in the Cedar Rapids area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, dancing, bowling and gardening. Robert was a 19-year member of AA and a dedicated member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, as well as volunteering at Anamosa State Penitentiary.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marian; two daughters, Angie Aldrich (Scott Pope) and Stacy (Benji) Michalec, all of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Cole and Kelsey Aldrich and Xander and Charlize Michalec; three sisters, Madonna Einwalter of Fort Atkins, Eleanor Burke of Elma and Margaret (Dick) Regenold of Oelwein; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children, Scott and Michelle; his sisters, Sr. Mary Cephas Wichman RSM, Delores Hubka and Dorothy Mihm; and his brothers, John, Hugh "Joe," Edward and James Wichman.
Memorials may be directed to Alcoholics Anonymous of Marion and or to the American Cancer Society.
