Hawkeyes, Uthoff pick up SI cover

IOWA CITY — Like its football brethren, the Iowa men's basketball team will have its own regional Sports Illustrated cover this week.

Iowa senior Jarrod Uthoff becomes the first Hawkeye men's basketball player to appear on the cover since George Peeples on Jan. 24, 1966. Uthoff, the Big Ten's leading scorer at 18.6 points a game, joins Iowa football tight end George Kittle, who adorned the cover of a mid-November issue. It's the first time in school history both squads landed Sports Illustrated covers in the same school year.

Uthoff played high school basketball at Cedar Rapids Jefferson.

Iowa's men's basketball is ranked fifth by the Associated Press and seven by the USA Today/Coaches poll. The Hawkeyes (17-4, 8-1 Big Ten) play host to Penn State (11-11, 2-7) at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
