Amana
H. Marie Hurlbert, 80, of Amana, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. A funeral service celebrating Marie's life will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Clover
Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford. Pastor Mike Townsley will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Survivors include her loving husband, Gordon; her children, Clara (Neil) Krumei, Ron (Christene) Hurlbert and Randy Hurlbert and daughter-in-law, Chris Hurlbert; grandchildren, Shawn, Amanda, Crystal, Trevor, Tyler, Kelsey, Tessa and Megan; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Martha, Barbara, Alice and Joyce.
She was preceded in death by her son, Rick Hurlbert.
Marie was born Oct. 22, 1933, in Joplin, Mo., the daughter of J. C. and Helen (Sandy) Dickson. Marie married Gordon R. Hurlbert on Feb. 13, 1954, in Carthage, Mo. Marie was employed as a library assistant for 10 years with Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids and later retired as a receptionist with Farmers Saving Bank in Walford.
She was an active member of Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford, enjoyed crafts, and volunteering at Lakeview Village in Amana. Marie was a big St. Louis Cardinals fan but recently made the switch to cheer for the Kansas City Royals!
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Palliative Care Unit at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
