Two treated for injuries after two-vehicle collision at Highway 13 and Paris Road

Two people were taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon in Linn County.
According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, at 3:53 p.m. Wednesday officers received a call of a two-vehicle accident with unknown injuries on Highway 13 at Paris Road.
As emergency responders arrived, they reported finding the two vehicles blocking the south bound lane of Highway 13 at Paris Road, according to the release.
After further investigation, it was determined that Edward P. Nielsen, 97, of Center Point had pulled his vehicle out from the east bound lane of Paris Road onto Highway 13, he was then struck by a vehicle driven by Raymond J. Heyer, 85, of Cedar Rapids, who had been heading south on Highway 13, according to the release. Sheryl Heyer, 81, also of Cedar Rapids, was also in the second vehicle.
There were no other passengers in Nielsen's vehicle, according to the release
The Heyers were taken to St Luke's Hospital for 'what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries,” according to the release. Nielsen refused treatment or transport at the scene, police said.
All three had been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, according to the release.
Nielsen was issued a citation for failure to yield upon entering a thru highway, according to the release.
Linn County Sheriff's Deputies were joined on the scene by Linn County Rescue 57 along with the Central City Fire Department and Center Point Ambulance Service.
