Thursday's Iowa high school boys' state basketball scores and highlights

The semifinals continued Thursday at the Iowa boys' state basketball tournament. Championship matchups were set in Class 3A and Class 4A following the 1A and 2A consolation games.

Cedar Falls 67, West Des Moines Valley 58

AJ Green poured in 25 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Cedar Falls to its first ever state title game, an all-MVC showdown with Iowa City West.

Green hit 5 of 10 3-pointers to counter Valley's 9-for-17 mark in a battle of Tigers. CF led 34-26 at halftime but saw Valley rally to go up 45-44 after three. An 8-0 CF run midway through the fourth returned the lead to the red Tigers (54-51) and they didn't relinquish it.

Logan Wolf added 12 points, six boards and six assists for Cedar Falls (20-5). Trayvon Williams led Valley (17-8) with 13.

No. 2 Iowa City West 58, No. 9 Waukee 50

Hakeem Odunsi came in averaging 4.6 points, but scored a game-high 18 against Waukee to lead defending champion West back to the 4A title game.

Odunsi made 4 of 4 3-pointers, including three in a third quarter in which West (21-4) outscored Waukee 22-11 after trailing 26-23 at halftime. The Warriors (20-5) scored the first six points of the fourth to get within two, then Odunsi hit a jumper and a free throw and Patrick McCaffery scored on the break to make it a seven-point game.

McCaffery and Seybian Sims both scored 14 points and combined for 11 rebounds. Dylan Jones led four Warriors in double figures with 12 points to go with 11 boards.

CLASS 3A SEMIFINALS

No. 5 Oskaloosa 48, Waverly-Shell Rock 45

Oskaloosa will get a shot at a state title despite making just 9 of 25 free throws. Jack Seward brough Waverly-Shell Rock within 46-45 with two 3-pointers in the final 21 seconds, but after two Tanner DeKock free throws, the Go-Hawks couldn't get a shot off with 4.8 seconds left.

W-SR (19-7) took a 34-31 lead in the third quarter, then Spencer Tucker hit a 3 and Cole Henry got a fastbreak layup and Osky (23-3) never trailed in the fourth quarter.

Jared Kruse led the Indians with 16 points. Henry had 11, and so did Xavier Foster, to go with eight rebounds. Foster made all five shots from the field but was 0 for 8 at the line. Luke Velky paced the Go-Hawks with 13 points. W-SR made 3 of 14 3-pointers.

No. 3 Glenwood 69, No. 1 Cedar Rapids Xavier 63

Xavier's hopes of a Class 3A three-peat were dashed by Glenwood in a tight semifinal. The final margin was the largest of the game for either team. Glenwood (24-2) led by one after the first and second quarters, Xavier (19-7) by one entering the fourth.

Nate Mohr and Andrew Blum both scored 21 points for the Rams. Blum also hauled in 13 rebounds. Xavier star Matt Mims went through a rough shooting day, finishing 4 for 20, including 3 of 11 from 3-point range. He had 14 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Jackson Joens also had 14, Kyle Moeder 12 and Quinn Schulte 11.

Both teams struggled from outside: Glenwood 6 of 20, Xavier 7 of 23. The Rams made 17 of 18 free throws. Nate Mohr made the go-ahead free throws (55-54) with 3:09 to go. Mohr then followed an Andrew Blum layup with a steal and finish on the inbounds pass to go up 59-54.

CLASS 2A CONSOLATION

No. 7 Aplington-Parkersburg 65, No. 9 Sheldon 52

Alec Oberhauser scored 17 points and Carter Cuvelier added 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead A-P to third place. Kyle Boerhave led Sheldon with 19 points and 10 boards.

CLASS 1A CONSOLATION

No. 7 Don Bosco 61, No. 3 Remsen St. Mary's 51

Jack Kelley and Zach Nie both scored 24 points and Don Bosco earned its best ever finish at the state tournament. Nie was 4 of 9 from 3-point range. Derrick Schorg led St. Mary's with 18 points and six rebounds before fouling out.
