Ray Rios, 71, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018, after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
Memorial service: 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ray was born Feb. 25, 1947, in Temple, Texas. He was one of 13 children. Ray served in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1968 to 1970. Throughout his lifetime, Ray worked in construction, housekeeping, as a physical therapy aide and as a commercial painter until he retired in 2009.
Ray was a member of the Moose Lodge as well as the American Legion. He loved karaoke, especially performing Johnny Cash songs. Ray loved sports, especially bowling and golf. He enjoyed watching the grandkids play ball and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Ray was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Ray is survived by his wife, Diana; daughters, Wendy (Mat) Fowler of Cedar Rapids, Amanda Rios (Sean Bennett) of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Ashley Fowler of Marion, Savannah Fowler of Cedar Rapids and Tyler Fowler of Cedar Rapids; great-grandsons, James and Spencer; brothers, John (Gerri) Rios, Frank (Laura) Rios, Tony (Donna) Rios, Tom (Wendy) Rios, Roy (Diane) Rios, Henry Rios and Benny (Margaret) Rios; and sister, Mary (Ed) Sekula.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Binnie Rios; brothers, Emmett Gomez and Raymond Rios; and sisters, Helen Gooden and Nueves Gonzales.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ray's name.
