A popular place to grab a burger or a mug of root beer in Cedar Rapids will finally come down Wednesday.
Demolition crews will tear down the A&W restaurant at 1136 Ellis Blvd. NW beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday. The flood of 2008 heavily damaged the neighborhood favorite, which led to a debate over whether or not it could be saved.
The A&W sign will be donated to the Carl and Mary Koehler History Center.
The A&W drive-in in northwest Cedar Rapids' Time Check neighborhood was badly damaged in the 2008 flood, and has not reopened. Photographed on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. (Liz Martin/The Gazette)
