Braulic "Cabby" Caballero, 85, of Fayette, died Friday, June 19, 2015, at his home in Fayette.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette with the Rev. James Brokman officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 339 of Fayette. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette and for one hour preceding Mass at the church on Tuesday. There will be a rosary recited at 4 p.m. and a Scripture service with sharing of memories at 7 p.m., both on Monday at the funeral home.

Braulic, son of Braulio and Anita (Ramirez) Caballero, was born March 27, 1930, in Oelwein, Iowa. He received his education in the Oelwein public schools, graduating in 1948 from Oelwein High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, was stationed in Guam and was discharged in 1952. He continued his education at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, graduating in 1956, and later received an M.A. degree from the University of Iowa in 1963.

On June 1, 1957, he was united in marriage with Patricia Miller at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. The couple made their home in Fayette. Following Patricia's death on May 3, 1992, Cabby continued to make his home in Fayette and continued to build a lasting legacy at Upper Iowa University. He served in many capacities at Upper Iowa and retired as Vice President of Student Affairs from the University in 1995. He also served many years on the Fayette City Council. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette, was a 50-year member of the Fayette Lion's Club and was a member of American Legion Post 339 of Fayette. He enjoyed playing golf and cards, had a large network of friends that he enjoyed over the years, but especially loved the time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons, Brian (Deb) Caballero of St. Michael, Minn., and Michael (Andrea) Caballero of Marion; nine grandchildren, Alanna, Max, Gabriel, Sophia, Emma, Ian, Mia, Will Pat and Anita; two brothers, Rupert (Martha) Caballero of Waukon and Michael Caballero of Cedar Falls; a sister, Angeline Alvarez of Chicago, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Bert Maynard of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and Earl Krone of Los Angeles, Calif.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ana, Esther and Anita; two brothers-in-law, Rosando Alvarez and Clayton Wilcox; and one sister-in-law, Judy Caballero.
