Marion man to lead national regulators’ association

CEDAR RAPIDS - Nick Wagner of Marion, a member of the Iowa Utilities Board, has been selected president of a national group representing state public service commissions.

In his new role, Wagner, 44, will lead the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. His focus will be on meeting members' needs and providing leadership in an evolving utility industry.

Wagner will be officially elected at the association's meeting in November.

Wagner is serving a six-year term on the IUB, which oversees the regulation of rates and services for electric, natural gas, water and communications utilities, and supervises pipelines and the transmission, sale and distribution of electricity.

He is a current member of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners' board of director, serves on its committee on Critical Infrastructure and Gas, serves as co-chairman of its Washington Action Program and as treasurer of the National Council on Electric Policy.

Wagner worked as an engineer for ESCO Group in Marion and served four years on the Marion City Council before be being elected to two two-year terms in the Iowa House. Wagner has degrees in biomedical engineering and electrical engineering, both from the University of Iowa.
