YVONNE MARLENE MARTIN
Cedar Rapids
Yvonne Marlene Martin, 86, passed away Monday,
Aug. 7, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Peace Christian Reformed Church in Cedar Rapids conducted by Pastor Gary Brouwers. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 to 11 a.m., before the service at the church. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to Fresh Start Program (a ministry at the Linn County Jail) or the Rise Program (another ministry for inmates looking to make a better life for themselves.)
Yvonne was born Jan. 12, 1931, to Lloyd M. and Irene P. Chatt, in Baraboo, Wis. She graduated from Beloit High School in Beloit, Wis. On Feb. 24, 1951, Yvonne married Thomas M. Martin in Beloit. They remained in union until her beloved Thomas died on Oct. 17, 2016. Yvonne was employed at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. She retired in 1990.
Yvonne and Tom loved traveling extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Their favorite country to visit was France. Yvonne and Tom also were avid outdoors people, enjoying many trips canoeing and camping. Yvonne was talented in gardening, enjoyed living in Florida after retirement, and had a great zest for all people and her life. Yvonne had a great love for her dogs; she also enjoyed doing her volunteer work in the hospital and her church in Venice, Fla., and had a strong faith and dedication to her community of faith at Cedar Rapids Peace Christian Reformed Church.
To my church family at Peace Christian Reformed Church, from the wondrous and illuminating gifts of Pastor Gary and his indescribable beautiful care, through the devotion, hope, love and spiritual encouragement of the elders and deacons; and of course, the rare treasure of many-layered total commitments of Christ-like inspiration of the entire Peace Christian Reformed Church family. Both Yvonne and Tom and their family have been humbly grateful for the profound love and support from the Peace Christian Reformed Church families. To the UnityPoint Hospice team of Sue and Dana, along with Rosemary, the music therapist, you are special gifts of God. You deserve medals of gold for your winning ministry.
Yvonne will be dearly missed by her daughter, Kathy Martin of Greenwood, Calif.; son, Tom Martin and his wife, Martha, of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Thomas; her parents; two older brothers; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
