Hyduk, Kevin A.

Kevin A. Hyduk, 57, of 3705 McGowan Blvd., Marion, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, in New Orleans, La., due to heart failure. Funeral mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, by Father John Gossman. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 4 to 8 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1790 14th St., Marion, where a parish visitation prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also visit one hour before mass on Friday at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Crissa of Marion; his daughter, Taryn of South Bend, Ind.; three siblings, Brian (Sally) Hyduk of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Cathy (Mike) Vint of Marshalltown, and Barry (Kathy) Hyduk of Indianapolis, Ind.; his stepmother, Geri Hyduk of Cedar Rapids; and mother-in-law, Anita (Del) Schons of Marion. Also surviving are many loving family members, as well as his granddog, Piper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Jason.

Kevin was born Oct. 1, 1952, the son of Walter and Caroline (Barber) Hyduk, in South Bend, Ind. He married his high school sweetheart, Crissa Finn, on Nov. 10, 1973, at the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Kevin graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1972. He worked for 3M Company as a senior account executive, where he was National Salesman of the year in 2007 and 2008. Kevin was a member of the Elmcrest Country Club, where he had been Club Champion. He was also a member of the Wapsi Country Club, where he had been Club President and Club Champion. He was a former member and president of Indian Creek Country Club, where he acquired many golfing honors. Kevin was a member of the Elks Lodge of Cedar Rapids; Sons of the Marion American Legion, Post #298; Jones County Ducks Unlimited; and the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Cedar Rapids.

He enjoyed deer hunting and having the best yard in the neighborhood. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs, but his heart belonged to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Kevin was a former Marion City Council member. It was during that time on the council that he proudly assisted in establishing the Marion Police Department K-9 Unit. Not only was he an integral part to this cause for the police department, he was forever giving of time and contributions to see that it continues. For several years, he organized the Hyduk Classic to raise funds for the Marion K-9s. Words cannot express Kevin's love and devotion to his family, friends, and community. He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Kevin's memory.
