Hoeger, Joseph E.
Joseph E. Hoeger, 81, of 560 12th Ave. SW, Dyersville, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at 11 p.m. at his home in Dyersville. Friends and relatives of Joe may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Services for Joseph Hoeger will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville, with the Rev. Msgr. Charles Schluter officiating. Assisting deacon will be Dan Hoeger. Burial will be held at St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville.
Joseph was born April 11, 1930, in Cascade, Iowa, son of Bernard and Eleanor (Schlichte) Hoeger. He received his education at Xavier School in Dyersville. He attended Palmer Barber College in Cedar Rapids in 1948-1949. He was a barber in Dubuque and Dyersville for 50 years, retiring in 2004.
On May 1, 1951, he was united in marriage to Lois Jasper at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville.
He is survived by four daughters, Carol (Dave) Johnson of Iowa City, Margie (Bob) Waechter and Jane (Dean) Wessels, both of Dyersville, and Sara (Dr. Rich) Halberg of Madison, Wis.; three sons, Kevin (Teresa) Hoeger of Bucyrus, Ohio, Steve (Karen) Hoeger of Peosta and Dave (Jane) Hoeger of Farley; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Hoeger (Roger) Riesberg of Dyersville; 21 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; two sisters, Delores Klostermann of Dubuque and Betty Jasper of Farley; and sisters-in-law, Clara Mae Hoeger of Dyersville, Sister Mary Karen Jasper PVBM of Mount Loretta, Dubuque, Mary Smith of Key West, Iowa and Lois Jasper of Peosta.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Hoeger, on Jan. 28, 2011; two sons, Kenny and Bob Hoeger; two grandchildren, Jody Waechter and Timothy Johnson in infancy; his parents; four brothers, Bernard, Al, Tony and Frank Hoeger; one sister, Vera Curtis; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Kay Hoeger, Dorothy Hoeger, Gladys Hoeger, Paul Curtis, Vern Klostermann, Val Beyke, Roy Jasper, Orlin Smith, G.A. and Rita Schwendinger, Sister Mary Philip Jasper and Jim Jasper.
