McCoy, Harold R. (Mac)
Harold R. (Mac) McCoy, 78, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. Patrick Catholic Church, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Military honors will be presented by VFW Post 788. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A Vigil will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Harold is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; three daughters, Patty (Marty) Standley of Marion, Debbie (Jerry) Warstler of Auburn, Ind. and Karen (Greg) Pink of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Jeff (Deb) McCoy of Haymarket, Va. and Scott (fiancee Jessica Brockhuis) McCoy of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, Claude McCoy of Virginia Beach, Va.
Harold was born May 24, 1934, in Eldon, Iowa, the son of Walter and Mary (Box) McCoy and attended Cardinal High School. He joined the Navy in 1952 and served on the USS Corregidor (CVE-58) and USS Mattaponi (AO-41). He married Mary Helen Hayen on April 27, 1957, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Harold retired after 41 years from the Cryovac Company. He was a member of the Men's Catholic Order of Foresters and the VFW Post 788.
Harold was an avid fisherman and tomato grower. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends, visiting with young children, DQ chocolate dip ice cream cones, cookies and peanuts. He also enjoyed sitting on his porch and watching the television show “NCIS.” His greatest love in his life was his wife, Mary and his family.
The family wishes to thank doctors Chirantan Ghosh, Matthew Anderson, Kenneth Cearlock and all the 8th floor nurses and techs at Mercy Medical Center and Hospice of Mercy.
