Schwers, Colleen M.
OTHER DEATHS - Colleen M. Schwers, 69, of 13616 Derby Grange Rd., Dubuque, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, while visiting family in Naperville, Ill. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Resurrection Catholic Church, Dubuque. The Rev. Joseph Hauer will officiate, with Archbishop Daniel Kucera concelebrating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may greet the family from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service held at 7:30 p.m.
Colleen was born April 8, 1941, in Bernard, Iowa, the daughter of Al Wolbers and Bernadine (Callahan) Wolbers Hines. She graduated from LaMotte High School. She married Elmer Schwers on Oct. 28, 1961, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, and was looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary next year.
Colleen's faith was very important to her, and she was a member of Resurrection Parish.
She was employed with the Archdiocese of Dubuque, cooking for retired priests at Villa Raphael for 27 years. She retired in July. She enjoyed reading, traveling with her husband, baking dozens of cookies, gardening, and caring for her houseplants.
Colleen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and loved spending time with family.
Survivors include her loving husband, Elmer; five children, Jackie (Tim) Duffy of Redmond, Wash., Sandy (John) Bagan of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Jeff (Judy) Schwers of Dubuque, Tonya (Corey) Schmidt of Naperville, Ill., and Jennifer Schwers of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Mitchell, Collin, Julia, Colette, Kaitlyn, Brittany, Tyler and Trevor; five siblings, Patrick Wolbers, Rose Ann (Dan) Muntz, Marie (Dave) Wiegand, Justin (Sharon) Wolbers and Loras (Sandy) Wolbers; and many sisters- and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother- and father-in-law; a grandson, Devin; a brother, Bert; a sister-in-law, Yvonne; two brothers-in-law, Merlin and Elmer; and several nieces and nephews, including Warren and Shannon.
Memorials may be made to the Colleen M. Schwers Memorial Fund.
