Heiderscheit, Richard A.
Richard A. Heiderscheit, 68, of Dubuque, passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, after a brief battle with brain cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Catholic Church with the Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road.
Richard was born on April 24, 1945, the son of Art and Anna (Gabrenja) Heiderscheit, of Holy Cross, Iowa.
Dick graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1963. He then attended a trade school in Omaha, Neb., for auto body mechanics. He was employed with Lenny Valentine & Son's for 41 years and later worked security at the Mystic Casino. He also was in the Army Reserves for six years.
Dick married Elaine Hoeger on Oct. 12, 1968, at St. Boniface Church in New Vienna, Iowa. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this year.
His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, and their two children, Tim, of Dubuque, and Kelly (Bob) Guns, of Davenport, Iowa; four grandsons, Eric and Michael Heiderscheit, and Charlie and Sam Guns; and one granddaughter, Morgan Guns; sister-in-law, Ann Hoeger of Dyersville; two brothers-in-law, Mark (Jayne) Hoeger and Allen (Sheri Thier) Hoeger, of Farley, Iowa; and one sister, Myrna (Duane) Riha of Longs, S.C., with whom he reconnected after 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Leo and Ileen Hoeger; sister-in-law, Carol Hoeger; and a sister, Teresa Ellingrod.
In lieu of flowers a Richard A. Heiderscheit memorial fund has been established.
