JOHN FRANKLIN COBERLY
Marion
John Franklin Coberly, 69, of Marion, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 24, 2016, following a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
John Franklin Coberly was born Oct. 13, 1946, to parents George and Inez (Vredenburg) Coberly. He was united in marriage to Denzel Hultgren on Sept. 28, 1968, in Cedar Rapids. John served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, 6th/29th Field Artillery, 1965-67. After his service, he worked in various occupations throughout the years, retiring from Storey Kenworthy Office Interiors in August 2012. Whether he was farming, inventing, crafting or just tinkering, John was always so incredibly patient in perfecting the task at hand. When not working, he enjoyed road trips anywhere as well as to their cabin in the hills of northeast Iowa near the Mississippi. Always awed by the beauty of nature and wildlife, he especially loved watching the many varieties of birds at the feeders and two eagles that spent most of the winters watching over the home property from the top of a tall oak tree. Most of all, John loved his kids, grandkids, siblings and extended family. His beautiful smile and welcoming spirit will truly be missed.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Denzel Hultgren Coberly; children, Trent Coberly and Stacy Haan of Marion and Troy and Jolee Coberly of Manhattan, Kan.; grandchildren, Trevor Coberly, Devon Coberly and Genna Haan of Marion and Alexis and Lane Coberly of Manhattan, Kan. Also surviving are siblings, Gladys Snethen and Mary Pederson of Monticello, Caroline Lala of Cedar Rapids, Cleve and Doris Coberly of Center Point and Millie Boland of Phoenix; brother-in-law, Clarence Mollenhauer Sr. of Marengo; sister-in-law, Dixie (Hultgren) Hunter of Castle Rock, Colo.; along with two aunts and many nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, George Arnold Coberly, Arlene Robinson, Dorthy Snethen and Ruby Mollenhauer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and just prior to the funeral service at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at Norwegian Church Cemetery, rural McGregor.
