Tyrrell, The Honorable Phillip Eugene
The Honorable Phillip Eugene Tyrrell, 79, passed away Monday, April, 9, 2012, at his home in North English. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 774 W. Broad St., North English, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Powell Funeral Home in North English, where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the North English First Responders and Iowa Hospice.

Phillip Eugene Tyrrell was born June 29, 1932, to Charles F. and Joanna I. (Galvin) Tyrrell in Anthon, Iowa. On July 23, 1955, Phillip married the love of his life, Diane Marie Graf of Spencer, Iowa. Making North English, Iowa, their home for the past 41 years.
During the Korean conflict, Phillip was a member of the 511th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. Since 1956, Phillip had been self-employed as an independent insurance agent. He was a former mayor of North English. Involved with Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and National Rifle Association. Phillip enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, fishing and hunting.
Phillip served 20 years in the Iowa House of Representatives. Highlights included chairman of the Labor Committee, member of the Governor's Task Force on Economy in the Government. He was a member of the Small Business Administration, Advisory Council and served on many committees. In 1989, Phillip received the Statesman of the Year Award.
Phillip is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diane.
His children are Timothy (Teresa) Tyrrell, Margaret (Bill) Davis, Elizabeth (Dennis) Strempke, Sheila (Tim) Knebel, Mary (Mark) McCullough, Patrick (Stacey) Tyrrell and John (Kelli) Tyrrell.
Phillip and Diane have 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Francis, Fanchion, Terry and John.
