Marilyn E Goers, 87, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, passed away on April 16, 2018, at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. She was born March 15, 1931, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Thomas and Nellie Everett.
Marilyn graduated from Omaha Central High School in 1948 and then graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1952 with a bachelor of science degree. In 1968 she obtained her teaching certificate from the University of Iowa. Marilyn was united in marriage to Duane Goers on June 21, 1952, at St. Peter's Church in Omaha, Neb. They shared 65 wonderful years together. Marilyn taught in the Catholic schools in Clinton, Iowa, for over 20 years. Marilyn enjoyed sitting on their four-season porch greeting the neighbors and telling Duane how to put the garden together. She also loved to travel and was a fond animal lover, especially her dogs. Marilyn loved to cook; her specialties were chili, chicken and dumplings, potato salad, and the annual spread of Christmas cookies. Marilyn always loved time spent with her family.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Duane; daughter, Kathleen (Mark) Wilden; grandchildren, Matthew (Janda) Wilden and Jeffrey (Megan) Wilden; and great-grandchildren, Brynn, Luke, Reid and Kage. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; and children, Patricia and Tommy.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a vigil beginning at 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1790 14th St., Marion. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) or the Cedar Rapids Humane Society.
