University of Iowa shortstop Jake Yacinich was among those taken in Friday's portion of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.
Yacinich went to the Los Angeles Angels in the eighth round, the 239th overall selection. The junior from West Des Moines Dowling hit .365 this season for the Hawkeyes, with 32 RBIs, 45 runs scored and 25 stolen bases.
He has the option to sign with the Angels or return to Iowa for his senior season.
Others with Iowa ties drafted Friday were Indians Hills Community College pitcher Nick Green (seventh round, Rangers), Iowa Western Community College pitcher Erik Swanson (eight round, Rangers) and Creighton shortstop Jake Peter (a Mason City native who went to the White Sox in the seventh round).
Cedar Rapids Xavier pitcher Mitch Keller was a second-round pick Thursday night of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The draft concludes Saturday with rounds 11 through 40.
Iowa's Jake Yacinich waits for the throw as Dan Olinger of Minnesota makes it back to second base during a game at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City on Sunday April 20, 2014. (Cliff Jette/The Gazette-KCRG TV9)
