Freda Irene Brandt, 94, of Olathe, Kan., formerly of Cedar Rapids, went home peacefully to the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Cedar Lake Hospice House of Olathe. Services: 3 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin after 2 p.m. The Rev. Bill Holly will officiate. Burial: Center Point.
Survivors include her son, Steve Miller (wonderful daughter-in-law Sharon) of Kissimmee, Fla., her daughter, Jane Mohr (wonderful son-in-law Kim) of Olathe, Kan.; beloved grandchildren, Amy Miller (Dahcota), Heather Mohr Povlick (Ike Hill), Ben Mohr (Taryn) and Scott Mohr (Keri); and beloved great- grandchildren, Raven Miller-Berg, Savannah Miller-Berg, Alexander Hagen, Delaney Povlick, Gavin Mohr and Kenley Mohr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and many cousins.
Freda was born Oct. 2, 1920, in Center Point, Iowa, the daughter of Christine and August Steinberg. She graduated from Center Point High School in 1938 and then attended Cedar Rapids Business College. She married Russell Miller on Nov. 22, 1945. He passed in 1981. She then married Willis Brandt on June 6, 1986. He passed in 2001.
Freda worked for Killian's Department Store in the credit department, Merchants National Bank in the trust department, and retired from Sears Co. as head cashier in 1984 after 22 years of service.
Freda enjoyed cooking special meals for her family (pork chops being the favorite), traveling, bowling, playing cards, crossword puzzles, music, dancing and FMC retiree potlucks, but most of all her family and grandchildren. Freda was a huge Cubs and Hawkeye fan. Freda was a member of Eastview Christian Church and dearly loved her church family.
Freda was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin and friend.
She will be greatly missed by all.
