West Delaware defense was its best offense last night in a 29-7 prep football victory over Waukon last night in Manchester.
The Hawks scored on the first play of the game on a 72-yard pass from Brett Yankovic to Taylor Heinrichs and went up 9-0 won a 33-yard field goal by Myles Finn. But that was about it for the offense.
After Waukon pulled within 9-7 on a 60-yard pass from Steve Carstens to James Volbrecht, the West Delaware defense did its damage.
Brandon Becker scored on a 3-yard fumble return, Derrick Dlouhy on a 5-yard interception return and Jordan Mangold on a 16-yard interception return - all in the second half.
Waukon had 300 yards of offense - 149 on 21 carries by Volbrecht - to West Delaware's 246 and held the ball for 32 of the 48 minutes.
BENTON COMMUNITY 49, ANAMOSA 7 - Zach Twedt completed 5 of 8 passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns to Mitch Lester as the Bobcats rolled.
Twedt rushed 25 times for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Mark Himmelsbach rushed 13 times for 152 yards for the Bobcats (2-1, 1-0 3A-4) at Van Horne.
NORTH TAMA 36, BGM 0 - Lucas Hefty had two receptions for touchdowns for visiting North Tama.
PRESTON 40, CENTRAL CITY 20 - Kyle Feller rushed for 191 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries while Austin Hughes added 118 yards as Preston (3-0, 1-0) won at home.
WEST BRANCH 56, EDDYVILLE-BLAKESBURG 28 - Cole Kelly had 172 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries and added a 59-yard punt return for another touchdown to lead West Branch.
Rilen Carew had a 78-yard interception return for a touchdown for the Bears (3-0).
ELKADER CENTRAL 20, VALLEY COMMUNITY 7 - Tyler Sylvester went 10-for-18 for 106 yards and three touchdowns for host Elkader.
CASCADE 21, DYERSVILLE BECKMAN 7 - Evan Ressler picked up a fumble and ran it back 80 yards for a touchdown at the end of the first half after scoring earlier in the half to put visiting Cascade up 14-0.
SPRINGVILLE 27, OLIN 22 - Noel Nissen had 135 yards rushing on 22 carries, scored two touchdowns and recovered a blocked punt by Shaun Loehr for the game-winning TD for host Springville (2-1, 1-0). Jordan Cress had 130 yards receiving and a 45-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown for Olin (0-3).
WILLIAMSBURG 21, FAIRFIELD 0 - Tim Jones kicked field goals of 34, 36, 36 and 43 yards. Tanner Blomme and Nick Timm connected on a 20-yard pass play for a touchdown while the visiting Williamsburg (2-1) defense added a safety.
WAPSIE VALLEY 40, EAST BUCHANAN 13 - Michael Rathe had 16 carries for 204 yards and four touchdowns and Brandon Niebuhr was 7-of-14 for 107 yards passing and two touchdowns for Wapsie Valley. Taylor Sickles had five catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns for Wapsie Valley (2-1 1-0 A4) at Winthrop.
Jordon Gerbracht rushed 22 times for 191 yards and a touchdown for East Buchanan (1-2, 0-1 A-4).
CLEAR CREEK-AMANA 48, KEOKUK 6 - Blaze Smith rushed for 46 yards and three scores and was 14-for-26 passing for 213 yards and three more TDs.
Kyle Campbell had a 26 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown and Ted Hergert had three receptions for 93 yards including 61 yard touchdown for visiting Clear Creek-Amana (2-1).
WEST LIBERTY 29, TIPTON 13 - Mason Garcia threw two touchdowns, a 16 yarder to Kory Wiele and a 32 yarder to Jonathan Lopez and EriK McKillip had a 14 yard rushing touchdown for host West Liberty. Adrian Moran recovered a fumble and ran it back 35 yards for a touchdown and Tito Villarreal hit a 44 yard field goal for the Comets.
