Iowa football gets commitment from Florida receiver Calvin Lockett

Iowa dipped into the state of Florida for receiver help in the Class of 2018.

Largo, Fla., receiver Calvin Lockett tweeted his commitment to the Hawkeyes Wednesday night.

Iowa's connection to Largo High School: head coach Marcus Paschal, a former Hawkeye safety who was second-team all-Big Ten in 2006.

'First, I would like to thank everyone who played a part in helping me and pushing me to be the best student-athlete as possible,' Lockett wrote. 'After talking it over with my grandmother, family and Coach Paschal and praying about it I want to announce that I am officially committing to further my education and football career with Coach (Kirk) Ferentz and the Iowa Hawkeyes.'

Lockett is a 3-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite. 247Sports ranks him 136th nationally among receivers.

Lockett, 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, is Iowa's 16th commit in the Class of 2018. He visited Iowa last weekend.

Rivals.com reports Lockett had offers from in-state Central Florida, Florida International and South Florida and Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and Wisconsin from the Big Ten, among others

Lockett joins Prairie Ridge, Ill., athlete Samson Evans, who played quarterback for a state-championship high school team that ran an option offense, and Indianapolis' Tyrone Tracy, who played running back and receiver in high school, as projected receivers in the class.

The early signing period is Dec. 20-22.
