David D. Vogel, 66, of Clutier, passed away Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, in his home, surrounded by family. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 20, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama with Father Mike Mescher officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Clutier. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service in Belle Plaine. Visitation will continue one hour before the service Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Lodge, 750 Hawkins Dr., Iowa City. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.hrabakfuneralhome.com.
David was born Jan. 24, 1951, the son of Bernice (Adams) and the late Charles Vogel, in rural Iowa. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Joanne Severson, in Belle Plaine, on Aug. 17, 1974. They enjoyed 42 wonderful years together.
He graduated from Benton Community High School in 1970, and then served in the Army National Guard. Dave graduated from mechanic school and later took agricultural classes at Kirkwood Community College. He had a passion for farming, and his strong work ethic led him to a successful business and career of 23 years with Pioneer Hi-Bred. The owner and operator of Vogel Enterprises in Belle Plaine, Dave sold Pioneer Seed Corn, lawn mowers and farm equipment.
Dave loved classic cars, trucks, antiques and relaxing at the lake. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family, including granddaughters who always brought a smile to his face.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Jill (Jeremy) Gatlin of Dyersburg, Tenn.; son, Joshua Vogel of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Molly (Bryan) Corley of Omaha, Neb.; granddaughters, Addison, Avery and Charlotte Gatlin, and Eva and Emerson Corley; mother, Bernice Vogel; parents-in-law, Eugene and Isabelle Severson; brothers, Ron (Connie) Vogel and Pat (Tricia) Vogel; sisters, Audrey (Allen) Waterbeck and Cynthia (Ben) Ternes; sister-in-law, Chris (Gary) Rohwedder; brothers-in-law, James and Jeff Severson; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; and brothers, Gregory and John Vogel.
