Eugene "Gene" Hruska, 69, of West Union, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at his home.
A memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 128 N. Walnut St., West Union, by the Rev. Jim Brokman. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, and also after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is handling the arrangements.
Gene is survived by his wife, Betty Hruska of West Union; Wendy (Steve) Hoornstra of Superior, Wis., Lori Hruska of Spillville and Bonnie (Ryan) Burnett of Mason City; three grandchildren, Justin (Leslie) Jacobson, Ashley (Andrew) Goenner and Zachary Hruska; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Erick; a sister, Mary Ann Hemesath of Verona, Wis.; a brother, Walter (Helen) Hruska of Rochester, Minn.; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Hruska of Verona, Wis., Dorothy (Frank) Quirk of The Villages, Fla., Alvin (Marian) Schissel of Rice Lake, Wis., Rita Kuehner of Orinda, Calif., Kenny (Mary) Schissel of Calmar and Peggy Schissel of Temecula, Calif.; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lydia (Frana) Hruska; his father- and mother-in-law, Paul and Angela (Hageman) Schissel; a brother, John Hruska; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Schissel and Dick Schissel.
