Herbert L. Dorsey Sr., 94, of Marion, died Friday, July 7, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. No services will be held at this time.
Herbert was born Jan. 28, 1923, to Fayette and Ruth Bethards Dorsey in Decatur County, Iowa. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Herbert was united in marriage to Thelma Jane Prosser on Sept. 30, 1946, in Iowa City. He worked as a science teacher at McKinley Junior High for 28 years. He also worked as an area coach. Herbert was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching sports.
He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Thelma Jane; children, Herbert (Kathy) Dorsey Jr. of Omaha, Neb., Elizabeth (Darwin) Coleman of Anamosa, Patricia (Terry) Hart and Barbara Jackson, both of Cedar Rapids, and Eden (Mark Mason) Dorsey-Mason of Traer; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.
