Robert "Bob" Frank Hruska, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Higley Mansion Care Center. Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Brosh Chapel.
Robert was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Bessie (Cermak) Hruska. Bob attended Wilson High School. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean conflict. Bob was united in marriage to Mary Jeanne Bushman on Aug. 6, 1949 in Cedar Rapids. He worked for many years at Iowa Electric Light and Power Prairie Creek Power Station. Bob enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes and Cubs and going fishing.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Jeanne; his sons, Robert A. (Elizabeth) Hruska of Anamosa and Mark W. (Toni) Hruska of Dover, Fla.; his three grandchildren, Arianne Patterson of Marion, Major Robert Todd (Kara) Hruska of Hopewell, Va., and Daniel Hruska (Jennifer Pereira) of Spring Hill, Fla.; a stepgranddaughter, Michelle Pate of Sammamish, Wash.; six great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Garrett, Andrew, Meghann, Aidan and Ariyah; a stepgreat-grandchild, Isabelle; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Evelyn (Rudy) Majciewski; and his brother, Edward (Mary) Hruska.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or to Linn County Veteran Affairs.
