William "Bill" Kanan Wolfe, 85, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Interment will be at the Urbana Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post 264 of Urbana and VFW Post 8884 of Vinton. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.
William was born July 4, 1930, in Madison Township, Iowa, to Donald S. and Irene (Shay) Wolfe. During the Korean War, he served his nation in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on July 17, 1953. He was a proud member of the American Legion and VFW.
On Feb. 17, 1955, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Brown at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. William farmed in the Cheney area near Urbana for more than 60 years before his retirement.
He was a member of the Urbana Cemetery Association and enjoyed fishing in his leisure. He always found time to attend his grand-children's activities. William especially enjoyed being able to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Midway; his children, Kathleen (Michael) Naylor of Vinton, Kindra (Larry) Nudd of Vinton and Robert (Pam) Wolfe of Midway; his grandchildren, James Naylor, Jennifer Naylor, Jeffrey Naylor and E-4 Senior Airman Stoner Nudd; his sisters, Lorna Moody of Iowa City and Donna Relf of Shellsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald Wolfe, and his sister, Shirley Vanourney.
