Daniel Richard Vittetoe, 70, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in
Mount Vernon, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Lisbon. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dan was born June 7, 1944, in Lisbon, to Charles and Mary (Reilly) Vittetoe. He graduated Lisbon High School in 1962 and joined the Air Force in 1965. He married Marilyn Herbst on Feb. 19, 1966, in Colorado Springs, Colo. After four years of military service, he worked at Rockwell Collins in the computer division and then for ACT in Iowa City. In 1981, he started his own computer business, which he continued for the rest of his life.
Dan was a lifelong member of St. John's Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. His true joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren that God blessed him with the opportunity to meet.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of over 48 years; three children, Mike (Susan) Vittetoe of Prairie City, Deb (Brian) Caballero of St. Michael, Minn.. and Angie (Chad) Reed of Parnell; eight grandchildren, Troy and Jacob Vittetoe, Alanna, Mia and Emma Caballero, Amelia, Colin and Abigail Reed. Dan also is survived by his three brothers, Larry (Kathy) Vittetoe and Steve (Lisa) Vittetoe, both of Lisbon, and Randy (Chew Yen) Vittetoe of Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Francie Baltes.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
