Edith Mae Schnoebelen, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Living Center East surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky officiating. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28. Visitation will also be held one hour before Mass Friday at the church.
Survivors include her son, Steve (Janet) of Naperville, Ill.; daughter, Diane Schnoebelen (Mark) Kramer of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Lisa (Terry) Tow of Springfield, Ill.; sister, Nora Burgess of Marion; five grandchildren, Kati and Kevin Schnoebelen, Derek and Kristin Kramer, and Amber (Adam) Craig; and one
great-grandchild, Chandler Craig.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton H. Schnoebelen; sisters, Edna Bosier of Cedar Rapids and Grace Sersland of Decorah; and brother, Wes Monserud of Monona.
Edith Mae Monserud was born May 18, 1929, in Harpers Ferry, the daughter of William and Mabel Monserud. She grew up on a farm in Harpers Ferry and enjoyed the Iowa farm lifestyle. Edith graduated from Waukon High School. As a young adult, she moved to Minneapolis and returned to Cedar Rapids to make a home.
Edith loved to dance and met her future husband, Clayton, at Danceland in Cedar Rapids. She married Clayton Schnoebelen on Jan. 4, 1954. Over the years, she worked at The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Kohl Insurance Agency, Kirby and Barron Motor Supply. Clayton and Edith were faithful members of Immaculate Conception Church and attended daily Mass there.
Her hobbies included attending her children's and grandchildren's athletic events, watching old movies, bowling, and spending time with siblings and friends. She was an accomplished bowler with several games over 200, and she was especially proud of her high game of 283. She enjoyed traveling, with a trip to London and Paris as a highlight. Her family pets, Snoopy, Happy, Sammy and Max, held a special place in her heart. Edith will be missed by her family in her roles as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
