The truth can be a bitter pill for some Gazette readers

Recently there have been letters critical of columnist Todd Dorman. People have a right to their opinions, but these comments are off the mark. Todd has a good understanding of what is happening in Iowa. Examples, when the Legislature enacts huge tax cuts for corporations and wealthy Iowans, what happens? The rich get richer. Our schools suffer due to insufficient funding for K-12 education. Iowa once led the nation with it's quality of education. Now at best we are in the middle of the pack. Our community colleges and universities are underfunded with our universities losing the world class standing they once had. Teachers and tenured professors are leaving the state due to lack of funding. Water quality in our lakes, rivers and streams keeps deteriorating due to agricultural run off with topsoil eroding. State parks are showing the result of inadequate funding and lack of proper maintenance. Recreational opportunities and good housing that would draw people to our state aren't on the state Legislature's radar. Climate change is creating havoc in our state causing floods, torrential rains and storms.

When will the Legislature take corrective action?

Todd is correct when he says things like this are causing the brain drain from our state. A newspaper's obligation is to report news, not to ignore facts that might make some people uncomfortable.
