Linda Carlyne McGill, 71, of Wapello, died Friday morning, Feb. 17, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital Hospice Unit in Cedar Rapids.
The daughter of Carl and Marguerite Cocklin McGill, she was born May 18, 1945, in Burlington.
Carlyne graduated from L & M High School and John Brown University in Arkansas. She spent several years coaching basketball, softball and track in Cresco, Iowa. She later was a district manager for the Des Moines Register and then retired after 28 years from Four Oaks Residential Treatment Center in Cedar Rapids.
She loved to watch her nieces and nephews in their athletic events and other activities. She also enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes, grilling out and going to the casino.
She will be greatly missed by her sister, Joyce and Willard Howell of Wapello; nieces and nephew, Lori and Dutch Beenen of Columbus Junction, Deb Howell and Dave Fletcher of Cedar Rapids and Rod and Alisa Howell of Wapello; her great-nieces and great-nephews or "grandkids," Mickey Sprague, Amber Howell, Zac Howell, Ryley Howell, Arin Howell, Courtney Fletcher and Kayla Beenen; and her great-great-niece, Brooke Sprague.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patricia Bonnichsen.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral ceremony for Linda Carlyne McGill will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Earlene Lekwa. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, with a luncheon following at the Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Wapello.
Memorial gifts will benefit the Wapello Community Ambulance Service and Four Oaks Residential Treatment Center.
