Joseph C. Sindelar, 67, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at his home. A private Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church for family. Inurnment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, in Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Joe was born on Jan. 1, 1954, in Balboa, Panama, the son of Joseph and Mary (DeMeulenaere) Sindelar. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School where he excelled in academics and sports. Joe went on to receive a bachelor's degree at the University of Iowa. He was a philosopher, writer, and an avid reader. He retired from being a carpet and tile installer. Joe always moved to the beat of his own drum and never let the world tell him differently. Joe could stay up into the wee hours discussing the mysteries of the universe, philosophy or his favorite music. He had a gentle soul and a big heart. Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his siblings, Victoria (Robert) Bauman of Marion, Daniel (Vicki) Sindelar of Indiana, Robert Sindelar of Marion, Kris Freewoman of California, Matthew Sindelar of Cedar Rapids and Kerry (Wael) Ayyad of Marion.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jean; and sister-in-law, Cindy Koftan.
