Solon Retirement Village a hidden jewel
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Solon's best kept secret is Solon Retirement Village. Having had a family member who suddenly required the services of a nursing home for rehabilitation, I learned first hand what a jewel exists in Solon.
Visiting every day, I saw how loving and caring the staff is of the people who suddenly find themselves uprooted and in a nursing home. The staff and residents literally become family. Not once did I hear or see any form of neglect, abuse or a short word or a raised voice. All residents were treated with the utmost respect, regardless of their physical or mental status. Residents were always clean, clothes were washed daily, all the men were clean shaven, women had their hair done regularly and the staff even did their fingernails every one to two weeks. The call lights were answered in a timely manner; there was no smell of urine from wet beds, residents were out and about and all the beds were made. Only the truly bedridden were left in their beds.
Having served as a nursing home resident advocate, I know very well what facilities exist in our community and was leery to send my loved one to one of those. We were so fortunate that Solon Retirement Village was able to accept my loved one.
