VIDEO: Iowa City candidate uses 'Black Angel' statue in ad

Iowa City Council candidate Jarrett Mitchell has put out one of the more interesting – and with Halloween approaching, timely – campaign videos of the election season.
He references sustainability issues, “the legalization of personal-chicken ownership in Iowa City” and democracy – all while standing in front of Oakland Cemetery's “Black Angel" statue, which local legend says is haunted.
Also of note in the video, Mitchell tells people to “vote for me, and me alone. …” Local blogger John Deeth points out that this is encouraging bullet voting, in which voters pick only one candidate when there's the option to select more.
There are two at-large seats up for grabs in the Nov. 8 election. Joining Mitchell on the ballot are Mayor Matt Hayek, student Raj Patel and MidAmerican Energy operations supervisor Michelle Payne.
Mitchell came in a distant fourth in this month's primary election, Hayek was by far the top vote-getter, and Payne and Patel were very close in their vote totals.
If Hayek stays in the lead and Payne and Patel battle it out for the second spot, bullet voting by Mitchell supporters could play a role in the outcome with the loss of those second-choice votes.
