Gary Robert Gallagher, 67, of Fairfax, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, of lung cancer.
He was born March 30, 1948, in Waseca, Minn., son of M. Raymond Gallagher and Geraldine (Amberg) Gallagher. Gary graduated with the Sacred Heart High School class of 1966 in Waseca, Minn., and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On May 13, 1978, he married Mary Corkery in Cedar Rapids. Gary worked at Quaker Oats for 33 years, was a bartender and owned Gary's Sporting Optics.
Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife, Mary of Fairfax; one son, Jerett (Lisa) Gallagher of Byron, Minn.; one daughter, Angela (Shawn) Behrends of Parkersburg, Iowa; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers. His parents; one granddaughter, Alexis Behrends; and his brother, Michael Gallagher, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, with a military memorial service at 6 p.m. and vigil service at 7 p.m. at White Funeral Home, Independence.
Memorials may be directed to the church, the Veterans Administration and the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
