Area players to watch for the 2016-17 girls' basketball season:
MARY CROMPTON, 5-8, jr., Iowa City Regina — Averaged 16.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Shot 50.9 percent from the floor, 45.8 percent from 3-point range and 80.9 percent from the line. Class 2A 1st-team all-state.
KENNEDY DIGHTON, 6-1, sr., Cedar Rapids Jefferson — Averaged 13.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Shot 47.7 percent from the field, 41.4 from 3-point range and 75.6 percent from the line. Class 5A 3rd-team all-state.
KAMRYN FINLEY, 5-8, jr., Linn-Mar — Averaged 12.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Class 5A 3rd-team all-state.
KELSEY HORA, 5-3, sr., Highland — Averaged 16.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 4.1 steals per game. Shot 47.1 percent from the field, 39.2 percent from 3-point range and 72.6 percent from the line. Class 2A 3rd-team all-state.
ASHLEY JOENS, 5-11, jr., Iowa City High — Averaged 19.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Shot 48.7 percent from the floor, 40.0 percent from 3-point range and 70.4 percent from the line. Class 5A 1st-team all-state.
MIA LAUBE, 5-9, jr., Marion — Averaged 9.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Class 4A 3rd-team all-state.
RYLEE MENSTER, 5-6, jr., Springville — Averaged 13.7 points, 3.9 assists and 5.4 steals per game. Shot 51.3 percent from the field, 36.2 percent from 3-point range and 77.2 percent from the line. Class 1A 1st-team all-state.
MIKAYLA NACHAZEL, 5-10, jr., Springville — Averaged 15.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Shot 53.8 percent from the floor. Class 1A 1st-team all-state.
MORGAN PITZ, 5-9, sr., Western Dubuque — Averaged 10.3 points and 2.1 steals per game. Shot 75.4 percent from the line. Class 4A 2nd-team all-state.
SHELBY REICKS, 5-9, sr., Turkey Valley — Averaged 15.7 points, 6.8 assists and 4.9 steals per game. Shot 45.3 percent from the floor. Class 1A 1st-team all-state.
CHLOE RICE, 5-10, jr., Marion — Averaged 14.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Shot 84.6 percent from the line. Class 4A 1st-team all-state.
LAUREN RIES, 5-9, jr., Monticello — Averaged 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Shot 71 percent from the line. Class 3A 3rd-team all-state.
RACHAEL SAUNDERS, 5-9, jr., Iowa City West — Averaged 9.7 points per game. Shot 34.9 percent from 3-point range, Class 5A 3rd-team all-state.
KAITLYN VOLESKY, 5-10, sr., Mount Vernon — Averaged 16.5 and 10.2 rebounds per game. Shot 68.8 percent from the field. Class 3A 2nd-team all-state.
ALLISON WOOLDRIDGE, 6-1, jr., Center Point-Urbana — Averaged 13.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Shot 47.4 percent from the field, 42.3 percent from 3-point range and 74.1 percent from the line. Class 3A 2nd-team all-state.
