Three wrestlers, three medals for West Branch

DES MOINES - West Branch qualified three wrestlers for the state tournament.None of them went home empty-handed from the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 1A state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena. The Bears placed all three in the top six.
"It's a positive note," West Branch coach Jason Feuerbach said. "They had goals to get down here ... they are bring home hardware. It's been fun."
Carter Carew posted a fifth-place finish, getting a 6-5 win over SE Warren's Jake Hunerdosse at 126. Tyler Donovan (152) was sixth and Casey Pence (160) placed fourth, earning his second top-six finish.
"(Carew) wanted to end on a winning note," Feuerbach said. "He did what it what it took to squeeze out a victory."
Alburnett had three finalists and six medalists, attempting to win a second straight team title. Conner Shulista was fourth at 138, Ben Moyer (106) placed sixth and Robbie Carrothers (220) was eighth.
Highland went 3-for-3 like West Branch. two Huskies reached the finals and 113-pound freshman Bryce West torched his way through the consolation rounds, recording four straight pins to place third.
Maquoketa Valley and Lisbon both had two finalists and a third earn a spot on the awards stand. Maquoketa Valley's Jared Coyle was eighth at 126. Lisbon's Matt Montgomery was eighth at 195.South Winneshiek had two medalists, including 170-pounder Ryan Hageman, who placed fifth at 170.
North Linn freshman Brock Henderson was fourth at 106.Edgewood-Colesburg junior Sawyer Amling earned his third state medal, placing fifth at 138. He capped the tournament with an 11-6 decision over Mount Ayr's Erik Freed.English Valleys 145-pounder Zach Axmear also finished fifth.MFL MarMac's Nathan Howe at 182, Iowa Valley's Jacob Krakow (120), and Turkey Valley heavyweight Luke Kuennen were sixth.
