Iowa high school regional volleyball brackets: 3A, 4A, 5A
The road to Cedar Rapids is now set for every prep volleyball team in the state. The IGHSAU released regional volleyball pairings Tuesday for Iowa's larger three classes, a day after 1A and 2A teams learned their assignments.
Postseason play begins Wednesday, Oct. 18 in 3A, 4A and 5A, with semifinals set for Tuesday, Oct. 24 and finals Monday, Oct. 30. Regional winners advance to the state tournament at the U.S. Cellular Center Nov. 7-10.
Class 4A No. 1 Cedar Rapids Xavier will host the winner of Mount Pleasant and Washington (Iowa) in the Region 7 semifinals. No. 14 Fort Madison has the other quarterfinal bye. No. 7 Center Point-Urbana, No. 9 Independence and No. 12 Marion are all in Region 6. CPU and Independence received byes, while Marion will host Iowa City Liberty for the right to travel to Independence.
In 5A, top-ranked Cedar Falls will host the winner of Waterloo West and Fort Dodge, with Marshalltown and Ames on the other side of the bracket. Defending champion and third-ranked Ankeny Centennial hosts Des Moines Lincoln in Region 1, which also comprises the three Sioux City public schools.
No. 4 Cedar Rapids Jefferson will host a fellow Metro school in the semifinals — the Washington-Kennedy winner. No. 15 Johnston is on the other side. Fifth-ranked Linn-Mar gets Cedar Rapids Prairie, a rematch of Tuesday's regular-season match. No. 14 Waukee is the other favorite to reach the final. No. 9 Iowa City West will host Davenport Central or Davenport North, then travel to sixth-ranked Dubuque Hempstead for the final if the Mustangs get by Dubuque Senior.
Class 3A No. 1 Sioux Center is the top seed in Region 1 and will open against Spirit Lake. No. 13 MOC-Floyd Valley is its highest-ranked challenger.
Other Gazette area ranked teams in 3A include No. 4 Mount Vernon hosting Vinton-Shellsburg in Region 6 and fifth-ranked Tipton hosting Williamsburg in Region 8, No. 10 West Liberty and No. 11 Dyersville Beckman are in Region 7. The Comets meet Solon at home with a potential semifinal matchup against No. 8 Davenport Assumption, while Beckman hosts Monticello on the other side of the bracket.
