Weber, Lois
Lois Weber, 84, of Sigourney, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Mercy Iowa City.
Lois Rosemary Harris Weber was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Webster, Iowa, the daughter of George and Ida (Van Dee) Harris.She graduated from Keswick High School in 1946 and attended Teachers College at William Penn.Lois taught country school at Kenersburg in Keokuk County.On Aug. 6, 1951, she married Alvin A. Weber at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Keswick.Alvin and Lois have been married 61 years but have been sweethearts since age 17.
Lois was a mother, farmer's wife and homemaker.She loved to garden, play cards, plant flowers, decorate her home for all seasons, mow the yard and cook for her “men” and her family.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney and the Altar and Rosary Society.She attended mass and recited a ritual of prayers, especially to St. Jude, every day.She belonged to Dudes n' Dolls square dance club and was president for several years.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin of Sigourney; children, Michael (Connie) Weber and Bernard Weber, both of Sigourney, Thomas (Nancy) Weber of Keswick and Christina (Mark) Kasal of Brooklyn; six grandchildren, Gina Wiley, Jessica Moore, Alex Weber, Jennifer Weber, Jacob Weber and Joe Kasal; one great-grandchild, Reese Wiley; and one brother, Duane (Helen) Harris of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill and Maurice Harris; and sisters, Theresa Lansing and Rachael Sherman.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating.Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Sigourney.Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the church, where there will be a wake service at 5 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for the Hospice Unit at Mercy Iowa City or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
