Margaret Siskow, 74, of Sigourney, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.
Margaret was born Dec. 30, 1941, in Mason City, to Vincent and Winifred (Heidrich) Lynch. She graduated from Mason City High School and Hamilton Business School. On Nov. 18, 1962, she married Thomas Siskow in Mason City. Margaret was an active member of many writers groups, including The University Club Writers, Writers on the Avenue, The Poetry Gang, Pen Women, Society of Great River Poets and Iowa Poetry Association. Many of her poems and short stories were published in "Lyrical Iowa," "Julien's Journal" and "Our Iowa," to name a few. In 1984, she received the State of Iowa Governor's Volunteer Award. Margaret also founded Hospice of Keokuk County in April 1985. She, along with Rosemary Adam, Betty Wade and many other volunteer staff, began admitting patients in the fall of 1985. In April of 1986, Hospice of Keokuk County was designated tax exempt as a non-profit and a board of directors was formed. Margaret continued to volunteer for Hospice and served as administrator for eight years, retiring in 2002. She also was a member of the Red Hat Ladies.
Survivors include her husband, Tom of Sigourney; three children, Tamara (Daniel) Schuster of Sigourney, Ryan Siskow of Sigourney and Rebecca Siskow of Hopewell, Va.; four grandsons, Noah, Alec, Nate and Aidan Schuster; and a brother, Michael (Mary Ann) Lynch of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Henry and Martha Heiderich; parents, Vincent and Winifred Lynch' and sister, Kathryn Mueller.
Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sigourney, with Pastor Richard Meyer officiating. Private burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. There will be a reception at the church following the service until 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for Keokuk County Hospice.
