Muriel Hamilton, 90, of Sigourney, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
Muriel was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Wellman, Iowa, to Dr. Lee and Georgia (Tracy) Marner. She graduated from Wellman High School in 1942 and AIC in Davenport. On Jan. 20, 1945, she married Robert Hamilton in Riverside, Calif. The couple lived in Sigourney, where Muriel was a deputy sheriff for the Keokuk County Sheriff's Office for 25 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of Sigourney United Methodist Church, Iowa State Sheriff & Deputies Association, Keokuk County Historical Society, Pleasant Grove Cemetery board, American Legion Auxiliary in Wellman, Keokuk County Women's Democratic Association, Sigourney Women's Club and PTA.
Muriel enjoyed reading, watching old movies, traveling and the roses that Bob grew.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Hamilton and husband Steve Ellis of Iowa City and Tracy Hamilton-Grove (Terry Suchomel) of Iowa City; a brother, James Seeber of Aberdeen, S.D.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert, in 2007; son, Gregory Hamilton; son-in-law, Bill Grove; brother, Robert Marner; and sister, Marcia Marner Carmichael.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with the Rev. James Seeber officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established for the Lewis Memorial Fountain.
