Rose Marie McMillen, 80, of Walker, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, at her home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Walker United Methodist Church by Pastor Mark Morehouse. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m, Thursday, Oct. 1, at the church. Burial: Walker Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
Survivors include her children, Kelly McMillen and Julie (Shane) Fuessley of Walker; aunt, Karen Klinghammer of Marion; grandchildren, Aprill (Steve) Graham, Noah McMillen, Miranda Fuessley and Jordan Fuessley; seven great-grandchildren; cousin, Floyd Ondler of Cedar Rapids; and her special cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; and brother, Walter.
Rose was born on July 16, 1935, in Walker, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Pavlis) Valenta. She graduated from Coe College in 1957 and went on to teach music at East Buchanan and North Linn schools. Rose married Kenneth Richard "Dick" McMillen on Aug. 3, 1957, in Walker, Iowa. Rose enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and a
long-term member and pianist at the Walker United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Rose's memory.
