Save energy efficiency rebate program

Properly insulating and ventilating your home is one of the easiest, fastest and most cost effective steps you can take to reduce your home's energy usage and your heating and cooling bills.

Plus, homeowners are proactively protecting their homes roof, joist and walls from the physical damage that is directly related to erratic temperatures that come from inadequate insulation. The benefits provided by proper ventilation and insulation will help preserve our housing population for future generations.

Iowa needs energy rebates, they reduce the carbon footprints of the homes. It's a win for the homeowner's pocketbook and it's a win for Iowans who have become accustomed to leading the nation in efforts to reduce consumer energy consumption.

Energy saved will help ensure affordable and adequate energy resources for the future.

Why is the Iowa state legislature considering a bill that would end the energy efficiency rebate program? As I work with customers to properly insulate their homes, it is clear that utility rebates are an important part of the customer's decision-making to go green and insulate. Removing these incentives that focus on energy efficiency will be a step back for Iowa. It will be difficult for new homeowners on a limited budget to insulate there homes that have had virtually no insulation for 60-100 years. Removing energy efficiency rebates also will have a negative impact on the retrofit insulation businesses throughout the state.

I ask state legislators and Gov. Kim Reynolds to vote against any bill that eliminates energy rebate programs.
