Trio reach U.S. Open finals

All three state school's will be represented in the men's freestyle finals of the ASICS U.S. Senior Open Championships in Las Vegas. Brent Metcalf, Moza Fay and Jake Varner combined for a 10-0 mark Friday to reach Saturday's championship bouts.
Metcalf, a current USA Wrestling World Team member and two-time NCAA champion for the University of Iowa, posted three technical falls at 143 pounds, including a 10-0 semifinal win over fellow World Team member Reece Humphrey, who bumped up from 134. Top-seeded Metcalf will face former Michigan standout Kellen Russell in the final.
Second-seeded Moza Fay rolled to the 154 finals with a 14-4 technical fall over Minnesota Storm's Kevin LeValley in the semifinals. Fay, a two-time All-American at University of Northern Iowa and two-time Anamosa state champ, added a pin and two technical falls and faces Nick Marable for the championship.
Iowa State two-time NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist Jake Varner moved into the finals of the 213-pound bracket, beating Deron Winn, 11-0, in the semifinals. Varner will wrestle Titan Mercury Wrestling Club's Wynn Michalak.
Former Hawkeye NCAA champion and Hawkeye Wrestling Club member Matt McDonough opened with a technical fall win and then pinned UNI's Joe Colon to reach the 134-pound semifinal, but fell to top-seeded Jimmy Kennedy.
Former UNI wrestler Jordan Holm reached the 187-pound Greco-Roman final.
